About H&M Brand Colors

H&M's red wordmark grew from a small Swedish retail story. Founder Erling Persson opened Hennes—Swedish for 'Hers'—in Västerås in 1947 and designed its early logotype himself. After acquiring Mauritz Widforss in 1968, the business became Hennes & Mauritz; stores adopted the compact H&M abbreviation in 1974 as the company expanded beyond its original womenswear offer.

The red, white, and black palette leaves campaigns, garments, photography, and store environments room to change while the wordmark remains stable. That flexibility does not make the handwritten lettering a generic font. Independent retail interfaces can reserve red for key brand moments, use black for durable text, and provide non-color cues for price changes, errors, and availability.

This independent historical reference does not distribute H&M artwork, represent a retailer or supplier, imply affiliation, or grant trademark and campaign-asset rights.
