About Chanel Brand Colors
Chanel’s black-and-white reference is rooted in a broader design argument about reduction, freedom of movement, and contrast. The House’s biography of Gabrielle Chanel connects her work to jersey, the sailor shirt, the tweed suit, the two-tone pump, pearls, and the little black dress, describing black as a deliberately transgressive answer to the decorative conventions around her.
A monochrome palette gives material, silhouette, texture, and photography room to carry meaning, but it is not automatically simple to use. Fine borders can disappear on white, large black fields can overwhelm, and reversed small text needs careful spacing and rendering. The neutrality of the swatches also does not make Chanel names, double-C artwork, packaging, or trade dress available for reuse.
